Government to support efforts by ICCI to create a new Industrial Zone
Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar told a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) that the government supported the business community’s demands for the revival of industrialization as it is necessary for economic growth in the region. The minister fully endorsed ICCI’s proposal for setting up an Industrial Estate near the capital. ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan along with prominent industrialists and businessmen were a part of the delegation. ICCI President Muhammad Ahmed Waheed said that the existing industrial areas in Islamabad were now short of space for new industrial units, which necessitated a new Industrial Zone in the region. The government will try to acquire land for the project in order to meet the needs of investors and industrialists, he added.
