CDA to complete PWD Underpass In July
On Monday, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) directed the completion of two ongoing development projects on the Islamabad Expressway.
Work on the PWD underpass and the extension of the Korang bridge is now underway, and according to their schedules, the underpass will be completed in July and the bridge extension in December of this year.
According to a news statement published by the CDA, the civic agency had addressed a letter to Wapda and SNGPL requesting that 16-inch pipelines be relocated from the locations to ensure the projects’ prompt completion.
Despite the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the CDA administration is making every effort to complete existing initiatives, according to a news statement.
It said that special emphasis was being devoted to road infrastructure maintenance, as well as the development of new roads, avenues, ways, and bridges.
“From Koral to T. Chowk, two extra lanes will be added to the expressway.”
The speed of continuing construction on the PWD underpass has been accelerated, according to the statement. The project will be completed soon. Moreover, half of the construction on the Korang bridge has been completed. Work on slip-overs is also underway to deal with the rush of traffic.A letter has been sent to railway officials requesting that the railway bridge be extended. Railway authorities have informed the CDA that the bridge construction will be completed as soon as possible.
The PWD underpass project was expected to be completed in May, however, because of a change in design, the CDA increased the scope of work by around 10%. This project will now be completed in July. Previously, in July, the CDA won the contract for Rs428 million, which was 19% less than the expected cost.
“We have filed a petition to the federal government requesting Rs500 million to extend the expressway from Koral to GT Road,” said a CDA officer. He stated that the civic agency was hoping that the government will issue the needed funds shortly.
