Islamabad: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved USD 600 million to Pakistan for Ehsaas Programme under the Integrated Social Protection Development Programme.
ADB Country Director Yong Ye briefed Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ayub Khan on the portfolio of ADB in Pakistan. The director also highlighted that the ADB will provide USD 6.3 billion to Pakistan under Country Operation Business Plan (2021-2023).
As per the details, 32 projects worth USD 6.4 billion are underway in road and transport, urban services, health and social protection, education, agriculture and irrigation, and energy. Under the Integrated Social Protection Development Programme, the government of Pakistan will get support to implement high priorities from Ehsaas Programme in a systematic and coordinated manner.
Sharing more details about the programme, the climate resilience and institutional capacity for social protection will also be improved. It will improve access to health services, nutrition supplies, and primary and secondary education to children from poor families, adolescents, and women.
Moreover, the sources reported that the ADB has provided USD 200 million for Ehsaas during COVID-19. It was disclosed that ADB will provide USD 3 million in grants for this program as well.
